On September 11th, 2012, member companies of the Roofing and Siding Contractors Alliance (RSCA), in partnership with the BackStoppers, replaced the roof of Viola Jonas’ Belleville home. Viola was the wife of Lieutenant Greg Jonas, who was shot and killed while patrolling a Centreville apartment complex in 2009.
(Saint Louis, MO) September 13th, 2012 – The Roofing and Siding Contractors Alliance Inc. and the BackStoppers, Inc. teamed up for an old-fashioned roof raising to support the family of Centreville Police Lieutenant Greg Jonas, who was shot and killed while patrolling a Centreville apartment complex in 2009. With a portion of supplies and labor costs donated by RSCA members, and the balance covered by the RSCA Foundation, RSCA members tore off and replaced Belleville-resident Viola Jonas’ entire roof on the morning of September 11th, 2012.
“The RSCA was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the BackStoppers on this project,” says Matt Willis, President of the RSCA. “The men and women who work in the police force, and as firemen and EMTs, risk their lives every day to protect us. The least we can do is help to protect the family of a fallen hero from the elements with a new roof.”
Retired St. Louis County Police Chief and Executive Director of the BackStoppers, Ron Battelle, was also on hand to watch the roof go up.
“This is what [the BackStoppers] do; it’s what we’re all about,” says Battelle. “We take care of families and that’s what is happening here today. We’re happy to be a part of it.”
The roof raising began at 7am and the new roof was completed by mid-day. RSCA member companies that participated in the event include Allen Roofing, the Carpenter’s Union, Andres Roofing Company, Arrowhead Building Supply, Artown Roofing & Contracting, Blakely Sheet Metal, CertainTeed, Crown C Supply, Exterior Building Solutions, Lanehouse Construction, Roofing Sales Associates, Roofing Supply Group and Taylor Roofing.
